Business Development Intern
Position Summary
VCS seeks a motivated Business Development Intern to assist the Business Development Manager in identifying and qualifying leads for DoD contracts. The role focuses on researching DoD government personnel at agencies such as ONR, AFRL, DARPA, and SPAWAR who may sponsor research projects aligned with VCS’s cybersecurity and software expertise. The intern will use tools like GovWin and HigherGov to uncover opportunities, maintain customer records, and support technology demonstrations. The internship is based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with regular meetings on the Wake Forest University (WFU) campus.
Key Responsibilities
– Research DoD contracting opportunities using GovWin and HigherGov, targeting solicitations in cybersecurity, electronic warfare testing, and related areas.
– Identify and qualify technical points of contact at DoD agencies interested in innovative software solutions, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and cyber-physical security.
– Compile lead profiles highlighting agency needs that match VCS capabilities in TAAS, red team automation, fuzzing, and avionics virtualization.
– Maintain and update customer records in the CRM system, ensuring accurate data on leads, contacts, interactions, and opportunity status.
– Support technology demonstrations to showcase VCS’s provably correct software and offensive cyber testing tools for mission-critical defense applications.
– Collaborate with the Business Development Manager to prioritize leads and develop engagement strategies.
– Track research findings and qualification activities for efficient follow-up and reporting.
Qualifications
– Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program with a major in entrepreneurship, business (e.g., Business and Enterprise Management), or a closely related field.
– Strong research and analytical skills to synthesize information from government databases and industry tools.
– Preferred: familiarity with DoD contracting and agencies (ONR, AFRL, DARPA, SPAWAR); essential: interest in defense technology and national security.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with GovWin or HigherGov advantageous.
– Excellent written/verbal communication, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
– U.S. citizenship is required.
– Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance is required.
Compensation and Opportunity
