Position: Offensive Cyber Intern

Description: Vigilant Cyber Systems is a small defense contracting firm based out of Mt. Airy, NC.

We have supported a variety of Department of Defense programs in the cyber arena since our inception in 2010. We are currently supporting both the USAF and the USN in cyber testing their platforms. VCS testers have tested over 50 different DoD platforms ranging from jets, ships, automobiles, satellites, weapon systems, as well as traditional IT and cloud systems. We are conducting an internship as a recruiting pipeline into these junior testing positions which are located at Eglin AFB, FL and Norfolk, VA. Interns who apply should be open to a full-time position following graduation at one of these two locations.

This internship will take place virtually, with a combination of assignments, and video training sessions. Interns will be responsible for completing a cybersecurity training curriculum that will prepare them for full-time penetration testing work. This curriculum will be a combination of industry recognized certifications as well as some in-house training that has been developed based on the hundreds of test events our employees have completed. The curriculum includes the industry certifications include COMPTIA Security+, COMPTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+), and any students who complete these will begin on one of the most important certifications in the industry, the Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP).

Applicants must also be US citizens, and will be screened based on their ability to receive a clearance. We will be putting all interns in for a top secret clearance as part of the program, and all of our full-time positions are based on having at least an interim clearance.

Applications, interviews, and hiring will be considered on a first come first serve basis, and the first 3-5 applicants that complete the screening process successfully will be hired for the next program.

Qualifications: Applicants should be familiar with creating and using virtual machines, and using a hypervisor. They should be familiar with Linux, as well as windows platforms. They should also be proficient in a programming language and be ready to speak to their experience in it. They should have an interest in cybersecurity, and be able to speak to any relevant activities. 

Experience: We are looking to hire juniors and seniors in bachelor degree programs for computer science, electrical engineering/computer engineering, information technology and cybersecurity.

Timeline: Resumes will be considered as they are received, summer internships run from May to August. We are also open to doing co-op programs during the academic year. The skillbridge program will also run year-round.
